• Freshman Welcome Letter

    Dear Freshman Families,

First of all, we want to take this opportunity to welcome your child (or children) back to a new and exciting school year!  Our names are Mr. Cordeiro and Mrs. Sawyer and we will be working with this year’s 9th graders as the Freshman Academy Assistant Principal and Guidance Counselor at Tolman High School.  We are excited to work with all of the freshmen and help them thrive both academically and socially.

We also would like to take this opportunity to answer any questions you may have as your child commences the 2018-2019 school year at Tolman High School.  School begins promptly at 8AM and the day ends at 2:30. Breakfast begins at 7:30 for those students who wish to eat before school. On the first day of school, every student’s name will be posted in the third floor Freshman Academy wing of Tolman and next to their names will be the advisories they must report to.  In their advisories, students will receive their schedules, locks for their lockers and important forms that must be taken home to be filled out by their guardians. Their teacher advisors will also be there to answer any questions they have.

In case you are not aware, as a guardian you have access to many resources to help you contribute to your child’s academic achievement.  One important and very useful tool that you can use is an online student information program called Skyward. If you go the Pawtucket School Department’s  webpage at,  there is a direct link in the upper right corner to Skyward which allows you to access your child’s attendance record, current grades and any disciplinary slips written regarding him/her.  Skyward is a wonderful resource that can be accessed from any device that has an internet connection. Please use this tool as often as possible to let you know how your child is doing in school.  Skyward also provides links to teacher emails if you would like to contact a teacher.

We also want to stress that the teachers are often available to students after school for extra help.  Please encourage your child to schedule a time to meet with his/her teachers after school as soon as he/she is struggling in a class.

Thank you and we look forward to working to make this current freshmen class the most academically successful class that has ever graduated from William E. Tolman Senior High School!
